The Rules of the Fall Fly Classic Tournament |
|
No rule changes will be made at the kickoff. The Womens Fly Series reserves the right to modify the rules as deemed appropriate by the tournament committee prior to kickoff. |
|
TERRITORY, START AND TIME |
|
| Rule #1: | DATES: There will be three days of tournament fishing, unless called for weather, October **, ** and **, 2008. |
| Rule #2: | Anglers will sign her own name on 'Start Ledger' at Headquarters each morning. Anglers will leave Tournament Headquarters starting at 6:00 am and fishing may start anytime thereafter. (Times will be published on team start page in Tournament booklet) |
| Times start information: First WAVE will leave at 6:00 am, 2nd WAVE at 6:05 am, 3rd WAVE at 6:10 am. Guides are advised that if it appears too dark to leave that they are ultimately responsible for the safety of their anglers, themselves and equipment. You need not leave at the designated time and although you may not leave earlier, you may leave later as you deem safe. | |
| Rule #3: | Lines out of the water at 3:00 pm. Any fish hooked prior to lines out time may be fought until released or lost. Any boat fishing after lines out time must notify The Lorelei. A relay message through another person is acceptable. Anglers and Guides are admonished that strict adherence to the LATE FISH requirement is for the safety of all participants. Any Angler/Guide not adhering to this rule may have the day's release(s) disqualified. This rule will be judged on its own merit. The rule also applies to the case of breakdown or other unforeseen 'unusual incident.' (Note: You may also call the Tournament Administrator) |
| Rule #4: | All boats MUST check in at the dock with the scorekeeper by 5:00 pm on Wednesday and Thursday and by 4:30 pm on Friday. |
| Rule #5: | All anglers must turn in daily score sheets, signed by angler, partner if appropriate, and guide, to the score keeper immediately upon docking. Your must turn in your score sheets whether you score or not. |
ANGLERS |
|
| Rule #6: | Two anglers are permitted to fish per boat and one angler per boat is allowed. All anglers must pay the appropriate registration fee of $600.00 per angler. |
| Rule #7: | ROTATION: When two anglers are present on the boat, and the boat is in casting position, the anglers will take 'ups.' Anglers will rotate their 'ups' at their own discretion and good sportsmanship applies. Only one line may be in the water at any given time. Failure to abide by this rule will disqualify the fish or fishes for release by one or both anglers. This rule will be strictly adhered to. |
TACKLE SPECIFICATIONS |
|
| Rule #8: | Only one-handed rods and single action reels, designed specifically for fly casting will be eligible. The butt may not extend more than 4 inches below the reel seat. The rod may not be altered after the fish is hooked. |
| Rule #9: | The leader shall not exceed 12 feet. It shall contain not less than 15 inches of tournament approved tippet material. A shock tippet of non-metallic or metallic material of overall length not to exceed 12 inches, including knots, may be tied directly to approved tippet. Tippet will be 12 pound supplied by Rio Products. |
| Rule #10: | An angler may choose to fish with tippet LESS than 12 pound, and if a fish is considered a world record fish AND if a tarpon, the angler or guide possesses a State of Florida Tarpon Tag, then the angler will receive full points for that tarpon or other species of fish submitted for a world record. |
| Rule #11: | Only artificial lures may be used. Lures must be of single hook construction only and hook must not exceed 2-3/4 inches overall. |
GENERAL RULES |
|
| Rule #12: | Only fly casting will be permitted. |
| Rule #13: | Angler, unaided, must cast, set the hook, fight and bring the fish to where the leader can be taken. Any other person touching the reel, rod or line will automatically disqualify the entry. At no time during the tournament can a guide cast or retrieve. |
| Rule #14: | Handling a fish unnecessarily will disqualify entry. |
| Rule #15: | A broken rod, above the reel seat, will disqualify entry. |
| Rule #16: | To constitute a legal Release, the Guide must grab the leader. Guide must retain a portion of the leader in his/her hand. When possible, try to remove all hooks and lures. THE FISH MUST BE RELEASED ALIVE. No fish may be brought in unless a world record might exist. The time limit for releasing a tarpon less than 36 inches is 15 minutes and 30 minutes over 36 inches. |
| Rule #17: | Trolling and chumming are not permitted. Casting in the chum line of a boat, not in the tournament, that is chumming is not permitted. Fishing in residential canals and/or behind homes or at marinas for 'pet' tarpon is not permitted. |
| Rule #18: | All entries must be approved by the Tournament Judges. |
| Rule #19: | The Rules & Entry Committee reserves the right to inspect tackle and test lines at any time. Judges Committee decisions shall be final. |
| Rule #20: | Each angler shall be accompanied by a non-relative fishing guide for hire, registered by the U. S. Coast Guard. Guide shall have all necessary permits/licenses including Everglades National Park Permit if guide enters this area at any time to fish. Should Guide not be able to show the required documentation Angler's catch will not be valid. |
| GUIDE SHALL SUPPLY TOURNAMENT WITH A CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE ADDING THE TOURNAMENT, AND ALL SPONSORS, AS ADDITIONAL INSURED. | |
| Rule #21: | No ladder or heightening device which extends more than 4 feet above the gunwale of the boat is allowed. |
| Rule #22: | Both Angler and Guide must remain in the boat during the fight and release of a fish unless accidentally pulled overboard by the tarpon. No assistance may be given the Angler, other than by the Guide who handles the boat and releases the fish. |
| Rule #23: | The length of the skiff may be not more than 20 feet. |
| Rule #24: | All grievances must be submitted in writing to the Official Scorekeeper(s) by 5:30 pm on the same day as the alleged infraction. GRIEVANCES MUST BE SIGNED. |
| Rule #25: | In the case of a tie, the last fish caught first shall be judged winner. |
| Rule #26: | A tournament boat may have one non-assisting passenger aboard. Prior permission of the tournament board and guide of the angler is required. This passenger may accompany the angler for one (1) day only. |
| Rule #27: | The Guides Committee very strongly recommends that all recognized courtesies and sportsmanship between fishing boats be observed at all times. |
PENALTIES |
|
| Rule #28: | Failure to sign in before departure will result in a 150 point penalty which shall be strictly enforced. |
| Rule #29: | Failure to turn in score sheet by 5:30 pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 4:30 pm on Friday will result in a 150 point penalty for each infraction which shall be strictly enforced. |
| Rule #30: | In the case of two anglers fishing per boat, any fish released while two lines are in the water are ineligible for release points. Any fish caught by the angler who is 'up' must be legally released before the partner angler puts their line in the water. |
ELIGIBLE FISH |
|
| Rule #31: | Eligible fish are: bonefish, tarpon, snook, and redfish. |
| Rule #32: | All bonefish caught are eligible for release points and there is no minimum size. |
| Rule #33: | All tarpon, snook, and redfish must be a minimum length of 20 inches. Any fish under 20 inches in length is not eligible for a release. A 20 inch Gauge will be provided for each boat. The 20 inch gauges have been lent to us by the Swamp Guides Ball and must be turned in at the end of Friday's fishing. |
SCORING |
|
| Rule #34: | Each eligible bonefish released will count for 250 points. |
| Rule #35: | Each eligible redfish released will count for 100 points. |
| Rule #36: | Each eligible snook released will count for 125 points. |
| Rule #37: | Each eligible tarpon released will count for 175 points. |
| Rule #38: | Any boat releasing a BACKCOUNTRY SLAM (tarpon, snook, redfish) completed in one day of fishing will be awarded 150 bonus points. |
| Rule #39: | Any boat releasing a FLATS SLAM (tarpon, permit, bonefish) completed in one day of fishing will be awarded 250 bonus points. |
| Rule #40: | Awards for Grand Champion, 1st Runner Up, and 2nd Runner Up will be based first on the number of eligible species caught, and second on total points. For example, the boat which legally releases at least one of each of the four eligible species over the three days of tournament fishing will win over the boat which legally releases one of only three eligible species over three days of tournament fishing and so on. |
